Lakes RR

Lakes Road Race - 14th July - David Reece reporting:

After a long weekend in work only getting 5 hours sleep before the drive to the Lake District, my body was feeling a little tired! Arriving early as usual I got everything ready and went for a long warm up to try and get the legs going. There weren’t feeling to good.

I started the race at the front knowing parts of the course were narrow so to make sure I wasn’t caught up behind any gaps that could open.
The course was rolling with a sharp punchy uphill sprint after a rapid decent, this stung out every lap.

3 laps in I attacked but got brought back because there was a few prime laps which everyone wanted. Straight after this 2 riders went over the top of my attack and managed to get a gap which eventually stayed away. Knowing this had gone I changed my concentration onto a bunch sprint. On the last lap I moved up to the front of the bunch as there was a climb about 5k before the finish which I knew would get rid of a few riders. Over the top of that the group split and I was in the front group.

A slight uphill sprint was suited for me as I’m no out and out sprinter, positioning myself well I was ready to go when from nowhere a rider went down inches from me. This knocked me off track but I still managed to grab 8th in the sprint just getting 2 riders before the line. No doubt if that didn’t happen I was confident on getting a top 3 in the sprint.
