Tour of Sussex Stage 5

Tour Of Sussex
 - stage 5 and weekend round up - Joe West reporting:

Well, what can I say? Sunday was probably one of the hardest days on the bike. After 4 stages, it all ended in Ashdown forest on a brutal Kidds Hill circuit, where for 10 laps we climbed Kidds Hill (The Wall).

After another long neutralised roll out we were let loose on the decent just before the main climb. The aim of the day was to move up overall on GC and stay within the first 15 riders as we knew with tired legs and with a quick pace there would be splits. On the first couple laps that's exactly what happened and after 4 laps myself and Peter Merritt found ourselves in the chasing move of 7 riders after 6 got away.

Coming into the closing laps we had caught all but 3 of the breakaway and lost a couple of riders out of the chasing group. Coming into the last ascent of kidds hill, I tried twice to get clear but ultimately it was to come down to who had the legs on the hill, attacks happened near the top and I followed the last one and came home with 8th and Peter 7th. Sunday was by far the deepest I've ever been on a bike!!

Stanley Kennett and Alex Ashman didn't quite have the legs on the day but without Stan handing me and Peter those bottles, I think Sunday would have been very very different!!

A massive thank you to everyone who was involved and the tremendous support the team gave throughout, I can't thank you enough!!
