D:O:B : May 95
From : Nottingham
Height : 5ft 4
Nickname : Once referred to as the ‘Mapperley Missile’ by the local cycling club ‘Velo Club Bread & Bitter’ – Who introduced me to the sport socially before directing me towards racing
Started cycling aged : 17
First bike : A Shoddy beat down cyclo-cross bike which to my knowledge was a ‘racer’. Didnt know much about road cycling at all back then. Bought the ‘star-ride’ stickered cross bike for 100 smackers. This later fell to pieces kit ride in my first winter’s training.
What inspired you to cycle : Essentially I always wanted to make a return to sport after being out of football for around 3 years. My mate bought a special specialized allez before i knew anything about road cycling/racing and I was so jealous. So I got one myself and started to join the local pub based cycling club for their social midweek rides.
Favorite place to ride : Derbyshire Peak District is my personal favourite place to ride. Ive not experienced any of the top100 favourites such as Holme Moss or winners pass etc. A good beating around Derbyshire through the winter helps me work on my climbing. Being the typical ‘sprinter’.
Favorite race : My personal favourite race is a Nat B roadrace in Pontefract, promoted by Upton CC. I once raced a regional A on the same course and finished 2nd from a 5 man break.
Post race meal : Fav post race meal would be a Protein shake for starters then after returning home and unpacking the race gear, would be chicken and rice. Diced chicken of course, seasoned (big fan of spices) and a nice amount of basmati to go with.
What inspires you to keep going when on the limit : What inspires me to keep going when on the limit is the adrenaline to dig deep. Keeping my race tactics in force whilst targeting the podium. I like the cat and mouse game in racing, prefer to get in breaks and graft to stay away. The thrill of the chase. A lot of the time it’s aging my cards right, keeping level headed. Giving it my all.
Who is your cycling hero and why : Without a doubt sagan. I know people would usually go for someone a bit more under the radar. But this man has class. His style maybe nothing like the cipollini cool cat swag. There’s nobody in competition with his character on and off the bike. All round legend.
What has cycling taught you : Cycling has taught me the extreme ups and downs of sports. Football has nothing on cycling. The sensations of crossing the line first is like none other. The upwards trajectory of Morale. Boosting confidence and focus in the following races. It’s like a domino affect. Although racing can be at the top of its game 1 week and a complete disaster the next.
Favorite music : I’m into all kinds of music. Very wide ranged. From Bill Withers to the monkees, to oasis Arctic monkeys etc. My day to day vibes are wretch 32 drake etc etc. All of the usual modern UK & American rap/Grime/R&B artists. Bass please more bass!
Favorite film : Fav film is definitely V for Vendetta
Interesting fact about you : I’ll definitely be the smallest on the team. I’m currently riding a 48cm frame. Any smaller and I'll be seeing 650c wheels!
