Hillingdon Crit West Thames Rnd #4 - 7th May - Dave Williams Reporting:
After a few weeks off the bike due to work commitments and a family holiday to Thailand, it was time to get racing again. After Sunday’s 125 mile Cycle Challenge for the Pilgrims Hospice around Kent, I was ready to pin a number on and give it a good go!
The race started fairly rapidly with a strong field (if not slightly smaller than I have seen before) but I positioned myself at the head of the race for the major part, chasing down any attacks and staying out of trouble. My legs were feeling pretty good considering, but with nothing sticking it was time to dig in for the duration and stay at the head of the race ready for a bunch sprint. As soon as the 3 laps to go board went out the pace lifted, but I held firm within the top 4-6 riders, all be it a little in the wind but well out the way of trouble behind.
Going into the last corner on the last lap I did get pinned in a little which gave a couple of riders the chance to roll over the top of me and I ended up finishing 7th overall.
Happy to get racing again and to of had a decent race with it on a fast night!
