Tour of Reservoir stage 1 - Saturday 22nd June - Matthew Hanfordreporting:
Tour of Reservoir stage 1. My first ever premier calendar race and I chose the hardest! The race started off relatively chilled with a few little digs from the front of the bunch. But after the main teams found out the time the break had got (6min) you could see them getting anxious. The pace picked up, no chatting from the riders around. Each time up every rise was getting harder and I was soon finding myself riding on my limit. We came into the main climb where I maintained a position in the middle of the bunch, then an attack from Madison Genesis over the top resulted in the race being blown to pieces. I ended up being unable to get myself within a group and was stuck riding myself into a head wind. I then got distanced by the final riders and I just couldn’t get back onto the back of a rider! Unfortunately then spent 40min riding solo trying to get back on until I called it a day. Something that I hate doing but decided it was the best thing to do. My first prem and something I can now learn from and gauge where I need to be. Massive thanks to the team for providing me with the opportunity to race these races! I will be back better and stronger!
