Peter Sandy Memorial Road Race - Nat B - 30th June - Ryan Watkinsreporting;
Last Sunday I went down to Devon and raced a tough Nat B. The course was roughly 8 miles long with 1 long gradual climb, which we had to complete 10 times totaling just under 80 miles. After a long 15 minute neutral, we finally started the 10 laps. There were a few attacks straight away and 2 managed to get away. After a lot of attempts on the long climb, on lap 2 a small group had got away. On the third lap Steve Lampier pushed on up the climb and blew the race apart, unfortunately I didn’t make it to the front group. There were roughly 15 up the road. With St Piran doing a lot of the work, the group kept getting smaller every time we hit the climb. By the 6th lap there must’ve been 20-25 riders in the bunch. On the 8th lap the bunch really split and I was in a small group of 6 or 7 riders. We worked away but didn’t catch the 2 groups out front. In the end I sprinted for 28th.
