Velopark Crits

Velopark - 8th June - Alex Ashman reporting:

First race back from a training camp; first race on the new bike!

It felt so good getting changed into Le Col team kit, Endura team helmet & glasses and then getting on to the matching bike for the first time in a race this season!

On Saturday I drove from Folkestone to Norfolk for a Nat B road race that I was really targeting. Signed in, number pinned, getting changed and the race was cancelled just due to the horrific weather... time for plan B! Straight on to BC to find a race that I could stop at on the way home, Lee Valley was the best option. So, back in the car for 2 hours (bringing it up to 5,5hr before I’d even clipped in).

Going into the race I was confident in my legs and the form that I had off the back of my trip to Spain. I let the early moves happen and watched as the others reeled them back in! With 30 minutes to go I put my nose in the wind and invested a big 5 minute effort to split the race. After this I went back to sitting around 5th wheel. On the last lap I made my move, someone sat up and blocked my way through, I had to pull the brakes and go again. I made up 14 of the 15 meter deficit to the rider that won but couldn’t quite make the last jump...

But on the plus side, it’s now been 3 weeks on the brand new Bottecchia UK Emme Super Light 4 and I cannot fault it! I’ve taken it to the high mountains, local club runs, crits and it hasn’t put a foot wrong or felt out of place at any!
