Hillingdon Crit West Thames Rnd #12 - 2nd July - Dave Williamsreporting:
The circuit was run anti-clockwise this week and with a light breeze across the back of the circuit it was an almost perfect night for racing... This week I was joined by young Leighton Dalley (4TPlus Velo Club) which made for some familiar company.
The race started full gas with constant attacks keeping the pace high. Eventually a few riders broke away (which included Leighton) as the E/1/2’s passed us which resulted in a lull for us and the riders ahead gaining a sizeable gap on the main bunch. Eventually 2 out of the 3 came back into the fold with the 1 rider putting in a massive effort to not only stay away but maintain a gap of around 1/2 a lap on us all the way through to the end where he took the win. The race for the bunch settled into a relatively high pace and with one lap to go I put Leighton in front of me and shouted for him to hold the wheel of a rider who I knew from previous rounds had a good sprint on him. We came around the last corner and the sprint fully opened up - Leighton doing a fine job of holding the wheel and at my instruction pushing forward rolling over the top of a few other riders in front of us so we eventually finished 4th and 5th respectively. It was a good race all in all and I felt pretty strong and hope to now look forward to an improved result in the remaining rounds.
