Cyclopark Summer Series Rnd #11 - 4th July - Dave Williams reporting:

After battling through awful traffic to get to the race on time, I squeezed in a few laps to warm up and try to shake out my legs after a few hectic and long days at works since racing on Tuesday night at Hillingdon... It was actually a really calm night for Cyclopark weather wise with light winds and warm sunny weather!
The race actually started relatively fast and with a fair amount of attacks and counter attacks to keep it moving nicely, but ultimately with not letting anyone get too much of a gap before being brought back. It was a good size bunch with some really capable riders but with nothing sticking it inevitably turned into an almost ‘lazy’ race where there may have been an occasional break but it would never come to anything after being chased down then everyone sitting up to ride around at a relatively comfortable pace. In the end I even relented myself from attacking and helping to pull riders back sitting near the head of the race out of trouble.
With 3 laps to go the pace did eventually lift and there were again a few more attacks from the stronger riders but as before they were all brought back with relative ease. On the last lap I pushed hard to maintain my position within the top 4-6 riders knowing it was going to end up in a big bunch sprint.
After the last corner at the very bottom of the hill and circuit we climbed over the main short rise and there was a lull in the pace... immediately I sensed it and attacked hard over the top of the riders in front of me and managed to get a good gap on the bunch - I couldn’t look back so just got my head down and kept on pushing hard all the way to the line. I could sense the riders pulling me back but then heard the shouts of John (see video) and that lifted me just enough to stand up and push on again to take the win by around half a bike length... I couldn’t get my hands in the air as quite honestly with that massive effort I could hardly see where I was going let alone muster the strength to lift them out of the drops!!!
Chuffed to get a win under my belt at last and get some valuable points to get me ever closer to moving back into racing with the E/1/2’s.
