Rider profile

Harry Ribbons

D:O:B : December 92.

From :  Epsom.

Height : 175cm

Weight : 57kg

Nickname : Haz.

Started cycling aged? 18.

First bike? Pinnacle.

What inspired you to cycle? My Dad.

Favourite place to ride? Box Hill, first hill I’d ever ridden up and I’ve most likely ridden up it thousands of times through cold winter days, to hot summer days. It’s a great climb for testing, with consistent gradient and with the reward of a great view at the top. I have so many memories riding up Box Hill, from simply riding up with my 60 year old Dad, which give me memories for life and those KOM attempts and you feel you’re going to die.

Favourite race? Bec cc road race, being 57kg this circuit is amazing for me, but I just struggle to be there at the finish. good weather makes this race golden.

Post race meal? Beans on toast with eggs.

What inspires you to keep going when on the limit? Focusing on the wheel in front and not letting go of it, hoping that person is going to crack before me, if they’re pulling a turn on the front.

Who is your cycling hero and why? Richie Porte, however hard each race hits him when he’s in peak condition he always seems to bounce back. He is a great aggressive rider and will put himself in the gutter for others.

What has cycling taught you? If you want to achieve something you have to put the work in. It’s helped me keep my body in a ‘fit’ state and I believe this resulted in helping me recover from my illness faster or just recovering in general.

Favourite music? A complete mix, but my favourite band has to be Linkin Park or Nickelback.

Favourite film? Wolf of Wall Street, or Inception, can’t decide.

Interesting fact about you? I have had a dislocated toe since I was 8, I kicked the floor playing football for school and the doctors said it was a bruise, I went along with it and it reset at an angle. I was too scared at 8 to have an operation, so doctors refused to operate and they said in my 20’s it’ll come to the point where the pain makes me have something done, to this day it’s still fine!
