Started cycling aged? 16.
First bike? Boardman hybrid.
What inspired you to cycle? My Dad was very enthusiastic about the sport and inspired me to take it up.
Favourite place to ride? The Flemish Ardennes and the Wallon. I’ve definitely ridden in nicer places, but having lived in that area for the last 3 years, my best memories on the bike were made there.
Favourite race? I love the spring classics, but my favourite race of all has got to be the Tour.
Post race meal? Nothing in particular. Something well balanced and plenty of it.
What inspires you to keep going when on the limit? In a race situation, ideally, it’s the prospect of winning.
Who is your cycling hero and why? It’s got to be Lennert Huylebroeck; the wisest guy in the peloton.
What has cycling taught you? A good work ethic and the importance of sacrifice. In addition to this, there are lots of opportunities I’ve profited from thanks to pursuing the sport as a career, such as living aboard, being immersed in another culture and above all, the people I’ve met along the way.
Favourite music? Anything heavy before a race does the trick.
Favourite film? It.
Interesting fact about you? I’m a ukulele teacher.
